We're Open!

Upon Governor Abbott’s order, the Galveston Railroad Museum was permitted to reopen to the public on Friday, May 1st, 2020. We've missed you and cannot wait to welcome you back!

We have adopted the Governor’s guidelines for health protocols for our facility, and you will see us cleaning regularly and frequently, and maintaining best hygiene practices.

Face masks are required, per the City of Galveston's ordinance.  The masks must be worn while entering the museum, and while inside any building or train car at the Railroad Museum.  Guests must also wear masks while boarding and departing the Harborside Express.

We ask you to:

  • Avoid visiting us if you don't feel well;

  • Wash or disinfect your hands upon entering the museum, and

  • Maintain 6 feet separation from other individuals not in your party.

Please continue reading as a few things have changed to keep our guests and visitors safe!

PARKING:

The parking lot at 2602 Santa Fe Place, Galveston, TX  77550 will be open for visitors to park.

ENTRANCE:

Both entrances to the Railroad Museum are now open, located at 2602 Santa Fe Place and at 123 Rosenberg (25th Street), Galveston, TX  77550.  This depot entrance is large and allows for the least congestion.

TRAIN RIDES:

The Harborside Express reopened June 20, 2020, and practices safe social distancing.  Due to the small boarding area, we are requiring riders to wear face masks while boarding the Harborside Express.  Capacity on the Harborside Express is currently at 50% to allow for safe social distancing.  The train's high touch areas will be wiped down and sanitized in between rides.

ONLINE TICKETS:

To speed the museum's entry/ticketing process, we encourage you to purchase your admission tickets online. This will help to minimize your wait time and interaction with people not in your group. Click here to purchase your admission tickets.  To receive the military and veteran discounts, visitors will still need to bring IDs or proof to a ticket agent.

MORE ABOUT OUR SAFETY PROCEDURES:

  • Per the Governor's instruction, any interactive and touch displays will be closed.

  • Some railcars offer little room to maneuver and you may see signs encouraging one-way travel to help minimize congestion.

  • We have installed 12 new hand-sanitizer dispensers around the facility for the safety of our guests and employees.

  • The museum has implemented a 3x/day deep-cleaning and sanitation schedule.
