Panama Railroad Exhibit
Before the Panama Canal, there was the Panama Railroad. Famously built at the cost of "one man per mile" due to disease and dangerous working conditions, the Panama Railroad was built to link the East and West Coasts of the United States. It allowed travelers to reach the opposite coast without crossing the plains on foot or rounding Cape Horn by ship.
The WBT&S: The Little Railroad That Could
This exhibit shows the history of a shortline railroad in East Texas. Although small, it played a very large role in the communities it served. This exhibit includes photographs, oral history, and some of the last remaining artifacts from the WBT&S.
F.W. Ober: Life of a Station Agent
These photographs were collected by Franklin Wallace Ober during his 40-year career as a Station Agent in East Texas.
The Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railway
This exhibit details the history of two major railroad companies in Galveston: the Galveston, Houston, and Henderson and the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe.
